Why I May Write-In Rick Santorum On April 26th

I feel that most may concur with my sentiments that this primary season has been eventful and rather, in a word, depressing.  We started out the primary season with many candidates, quite a number of them are great conservatives.  And now we are left with a liberal lite RINO, a tyrannical blowhard and a snobby less than pure conservative junior senator.

I, like others, had great hopes when we entered this race.  Where have we gone so horribly wrong?  It seems that the Republican parties failed policies and continued push on voters to “give us the majority in the House” and “give us the majority in the senate” and thing will get done.  To only have been met with “Well we tried, and Obama won’t let us do anything, so give us the presidency too!”  Voters and formerly staunch supporters of certain candidates who have strong conservative records and lists of accomplishments have all become so disillusioned that candidates like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz became the poster children of their crushed feelings and animosity toward the party.

Not that I am defending the party leadership, but there is a rather large difference in supporting a genuine, winning candidate with a conservative record whom the party somewhat dislikes and someone who is outright vile and thinks calling people out in public after private discussions is hard core and inspiring.  In one leap and bound we have gone from peaceful activism to full out assault on the party leaders and refuses to work with anyone.

In 2012 I was a staunch supporter and volunteer for Rick Santorum, so joining agains this past time was a no brainer for me.  He had a strong record of accomplishments, getting conservative legislation passed while working with his colleagues on his side of the isle and across.  A deep understanding of foreign policy and immigration, he should have been a shoe in after coming in 2nd behind Romney.  But the field flooded, and others saw the affect of his message and took bits that they claimed for themselves, Trump essentially took Rick’s whole blue collar message and morphed it and voiced in his bombastic way.  Cruz, after taking Rick’s hard line immigration policies went from a C on Numbers USA and now has an A+.

I have been thinking and praying hard about since after Rick dropped and I switched to supporting Rubio, who then also dropped out the next month.  It leaves me with pondering what will let my conscience rest easiest, knowing that I used my vote and voice. The primary process for me has always been a way for me to vote for my candidate no matter what happened prior to.  I voted for Rick in 2012 even though he had dropped out the previous week, and he still was competitive and took 2nd place over Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich who were still running.  I’m not saying that is what will happen this time, as a write-in that is highly unlikely.

I just know that for me, writing in my candidate keeps my conscience clear, especially when I feel that none of the three candidates running are really deserving of my vote in the primary.  Call me crazy, but this is my firmly held belief.  The general will be different, but in the primary my vote will always go to the true conservative with the best record.

Moving Forward; Why I Endorse Marco Rubio

This past week has been a roller coaster ride, not just for me, but for all Rick Santorum staffers, volunteers and supporters.  The results in Iowa did not come out as we had expected and left us stunned.  So we did what we knew best and had done for weeks leading up to the caucus.  We prayed.  For clarity, for guidance, and for Rick and his family.  Because we knew that God’s plan is greater than ours.

Then the next day came and Rick made his two announcements.  Both did not surprise me, and I have enthusiastically chosen to go along with Rick and give my full support to Marco Rubio.

Marco, though I have not seen eye to eye with him on all issues.  He is firm in his values and beliefs, something that is crucial to me in a candidate.  He also has shown that is open to hearing ideas and learning, something that he has obviously done already as he’s surely read Rick’s message and plan for blue collar America.  His stance on immigration has softened, though I would like to see him change more to what Rick had planned.  But overall his plan is not the end of the world, or the end of America as most would have you believe.  He supports deporting all criminal illegal aliens, including those with serious single misdemeanor (domestic violence and drunk driving among others).  And he would immediately revoke Obama’s 2014 executive order that protects as many as 5 million adult illegal aliens from deportation.  Here is an excerpt from his book American Dreams, on what his plan is for illegal immigrants:

Rubio, from American Dreams, 2015: First, those here illegally must come forward and be registered. If they have committed serious crimes or have not been here long enough, they will have to leave. With the new E-Verify system in place, they are going to find it difficult to find a job in any case. Second, those who qualify would be allowed to apply for a temporary nonimmigrant visa. To obtain it they will have to pay an application fee and a fine, undergo a background check and learn English. Once they receive this work permit, they would be allowed to work legally and travel. To keep it, they will have to pay taxes. They would not qualify for government programs like Obamacare, welfare or food stamps. And if they commit a crime while in this status, they would lose their permit. Third and finally, those who qualify for a nonimmigrant visa will have to remain in this status for at least a decade. After that, they would be allowed to apply for permanent residency if they so choose. Many who qualify for this status will choose to remain in it indefinitely. But those who choose to seek permanent residency would have to do it the way anyone else would, not through any special pathway.

As you can see, the record that he has and espouses is different than the one the other candidates want you to believe.

In the senate he has been leader and has actually done more take out Obamacare than its self proclaimed arch enemy, Ted Cruz, has done to get rid of it.  Below is a list of Marco’s accomplishments in the Senate.

As it the above makes clear, Rubio has done a lot in the senate.  He may not have huge accomplishments like what Rick did with welfare reform and the partial birth abortion ban.  But it is quite hard to get things done when in your first four years in the senate the majority leader, Harry Reid did not let anything get done.

So given Marco’s committed to stance to pro-life and religious freedoms and values, it was a no brainer for me to gravitate toward him after the departure of my own candidate. He is natural born leader who when he stands up and speaks, others take notice, and he is not afraid to take strong and firm stances in what he believes.

That is why I am happy to fully support and endorse Marco Rubio for president of the United States.
